DID YOU KNOW? : ‘THE ANURAG KASHYAP VERSION’
What comes to your mind when you hear the name, Anurag Kashyap? GANGS OF WASSEYPUR? Movies with hell lot of violence and slangs? The poster boy of Indie movies manufactured in India? But trust me he is way more than that, he is someone who went through so much struggle and loads of controversies. So I am going to tell you guys things about Anurag Kashyap which you might not know very well.
1) Early phase
Just a normal student who was pursuing BSc with Zoology from the prestigious HANSRAJ COLLEGE once went to a film festival(1993) and encountered a life-changing experience in the form of an Italian movie BICYCLE THIEVES(1948) which took him to the PRITHVI THEATRE (MUMBAI) where he worked as waiter, being THE FLASH in writing he used to write so many excellent scripts in one day without any credits or money which slowly delivered him with huge breakthrough in RAM GOPAL VERMA’S SATYA(1998) as scriptwriter.
2)The lone warrior with some unnoticed and underrated work
It would amaze you to know that after SATYA, ANURAG went on writing on the Script of some masterpiece like SHOOL (1999), NAYAK (2001), YUVA (2004), UDDAN (2010) and many more which cemented his name in the industry as one of the greats.
Talking about direction, From the beginning he knew that he is not the one who will touch the heart of his audience with soothing love stories but someone who will make people uncomfortable with his black, crime-based stories which in turn made his friendship with our CENSOR BOARD not very appealing and thus 2 out of his 3 movies went unreleased due to their bold and dark content and those where PAANCH and the masterpiece BLACK FRIDAY.
3)King of controversies
A person with guts to make a movie on BOMBAY BOMB BLAST and DRUGS ADDICTION just before PUNJAB ELECTION in this sensitive country will obviously get involved in so many controversies too. One of the recent was his INSTAGRAM post with a 23-year-old SUBHRA SHETTY with a caption <3 which raised so many eyebrows as THE GANGS OF WASSEYPUR director have been in 2 married relationships with Aarti Bajaj(2003-09) and the ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA actress KALKI KOECHLIN(2011-15). Many more controversies like his tweet on PM NARENDRA MODI’S Pakistan visit, defending Karan Johar on AAE DIL HAI MUSKIL banned controversy to the famous slamming SALMAN-ARBAZ KHAN on replacing his brother (ABHINAV KASHYAP) as the Director of movie DABBANG 2 and many countless controversies, ANURAG KASHYAP has been always crowned by controversies.
4)Not so perfect KASHYAP
Not everything that Anurag touched turned in to gold, he was a disaster as an actor in movies like SHAGIRD (2011) as Bunty Bhaiya and as a corrupted police officer in Sonakshi SINHA starred AKIRA. And some fail directorial ventures like BOMBAY VELVET, PAANCH and few more are some of the disappointment of ANURAGS’s mighty career in the Bollywood industry
5)Some unknown victories of this winner
ANURAG KASHYAP with his extraordinary capabilities to make such unconventional movies has not earned his fame and award in INDIA but he has been a winner outside INDIA as well as, he is the recipient of the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the GOVERNMENT OF FRANCE in 2013 for his contribution in films. He also received PUCHON INTERNATION FANTASTIC FILM (Russia) as director for his movie RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0 , DEAUVILLE ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL award for best director for UGLY(2013) and was nominee for so many major award like BAFTA AWARD, CANNES FILM FESTIVAL AWARD, ASIAN FILM AWARD,DUBAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL,SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL and many more for various category like directing, producing and so on.
It will be completely unfair for summing up an article of such legend within a few words, a person who changed the course of Indian cinema with his unconventional way of choosing movie and directing it or producing them have actually opened the door for many upcoming movie makers and actors to do something out of the box and produce gem without any big budget or big banner or big names involved in the movie.
